Hello Supercult West! This is Supercult South Bad Movie Professor Cameron Coker (BS in “Anthologies” with a minor in “It AIN’T All Good in da Hood”) and I’m reaching out to you from across the country to help hype tonight’s double feature beginning with Snoop Dogg’s Hood of Horror!
Premiered as the secret ninth film in the 8 Films to Die for Film Festival in 2006, Snoop Dogg’s Hood of Horror finally answers a question that has been plaguing mankind for generations: What do you get when you combine the 1950s bi-monthly horror comic anthology Tales of the Crypt with the 1995 horror anthology film Tales from the Hood with a 40-year-old American rapper? The Answer? 11% on Rotten Tomatoes, that’s what.
Man, this movie is OG: Offensive Garbage! The whole thing’s like this super campy and gory trio of short stories like a blacksploitation version of Heavy Metal of something! I mean, I guess it’s sorta interesting cuz Snoop Dogg basically plays a hood version of the Crypt Keeper and shows up every now and then to rap about evil, irony, and to foreshadow stuff. It’s also got some pretty cool animated sequences from Japan’s studio Madhouse the same studio that did One-Punch Man, Paprika, and Death Note. But the best part is that it’s got some super sweet cast members. They got Method Man, one of the original members of the Wu-Tang Clang, Ernie Hudson, the black guy from Ghostbusters, Danny Trejo from the Machete films, and Billy Dee Williams aka mutha-fuckin’ Lando Calrissian!
Uhh… Wait a sec…Why do people hate this movie again? Cuz I’m reading this and I think it might be awesome.
Anyway, Supercult West is proud to present Snoop Dogg’s Hood of Horror!
